Schizophrenia is a disorder affecting at least one percent of the population at some time in their lives all over the world. Families, friends and people with Schizophrenia can by working collectively help to alleviate the many problems experienced by people with chronic mental illness and their families. The PROMPT CARE INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION is a non profit organization dedicated to this cause. The treatment and rehabilitation facilities available are limited in our country.

ANAND REHABILITATION CENTRE (HALF WAY HOME) Nallasopara.
The growing needs of psycho social rehabilitation for Schizophrenia and lack of such services in the western region of the country motivated PROMPT CARE INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION to set up a half way home. This residential care is the first of its kind in Mumbai city functioning since April 2002 providing residential programme for male and female patients.

Admission:
The essential criterion for admission is that the applicant should be able to make good use of the kind of approach the home offers. The family should make an application on the specific form available at the centre, which will be screened by the admission committee. The duration of stay varies from one month to six months and can be extended further.

Programme:
The centre has a comprehensive programme designed to help members. The focus is on development of social and practical skills to overcome their deficits in personal, social and vocational functioning.
The involvement of members in the wider community through work and allied activities is the prime concern of the centre.
The programme conducted by the professionally trained staff includes activity scheduling individual and group counseling, family counseling, yoga, planned recreation and vocational training.

Other Services:
This includes referral services, supervision of medication, educating the families and members about the illness, organizing support groups for the families.
Role of the family:
The participation of the family in the member’s progress is essential. Families would be involved in the progress reviews conducted at the end of the every month. At this meeting the member, the family, the staff and the Psychiatrists discuss and plan goals for the next stage. Families are expected to visit the member once in a week during the first two-month and once in a month later.
